EDITOR'S CORNER

Hello FrontLine readers.

While I will admit to some angst in filling the very large boots of former executive editor, retired Major-General Clive Addy, I am very excited to have joined the FrontLine Safety & Security team, and appreciate publisher Chris MacLean’s confidence in me.

To say 2020 has been a difficult year would be an understatement. COVID-19 has placed added pressures on the already challenging work that our public and private safety, emergency management and healthcare workers face daily. The way they have adapted to the “new normal” speaks highly to level of dedication and professionalism with which they perform their indispensable duties. 

Crises have not stopped due the pandemic, rather, new approaches to mitigation and response efforts have had to be developed. From daily service delivery to Black Swan events, all have had to be approached with a COVID-19 lens.

One such event took place in April (in fact, not too far from where I now live), when 22 Nova Scotians were murdered during Canada’s deadliest rampage. Due to the timing of the criminal investigation and public inquiry, the decision was made to release relevant articles in later editions. At this time, I pass on my sincere condolences to the families and my appreciation to all of the police officers and first responders that attended to those horrific scenes.

I cannot thank our fabulous writers enough for challenging our readers to consider the hard questions in this, my first edition. I am looking forward to hearing your feedback and ideas for new articles, and to sharing the wealth of professional information from our experts in the future.
